The contest is named in honor of the two local “LACBBQS”, decedents of Pearl Woodward. In 1870, the Pearl Woodward family settled in Texas; started BBQ selling pit cooked hog meat, brisket in the ground, apple pie and cornbread out of a covered wagon in a community named Uvalde, TX. The Woodward clan from Scotland is said to pass “that ‘gift’ with barbecue” to their Grandson in Los Angeles.
