What began in 2001 with $10,000 in prize money and 30 teams has now grown to become one of the premier events on the competition circuit.
 
The Eighth Annual Smoke on the Water $100,00 Arkansas Barbecue Challange
is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society and will follow their rules and judges criteria.
 
Prize money for both contests in 2008 is $50,000 which pays the top ten overall winners, 20 places in each category and is considered a qualifier.
 
Competition is in four categories; Pork ribs, pork butt, beef brisket and chicken.
